At LOKfit, we work with a lot of successful, high-achieving women. Women who are used to getting things done.
They manage businesses, lead teams, raise families, care for ageing parents, keep the household running… and somehow still make time to train.
They’re disciplined. They’re consistent. They’re doing everything they think they should be doing. They’re eating enough protein. They’re lifting weights. They’re taking the supplements. They’re hitting their step count.
And yet…
They tell us the same thing.
‘I’m putting all this effort in, but my tummy feels bigger than when I started.’
Sound familiar?
If it does, here’s something we want you to know.
Your Body Doesn’t Just Respond to Food and Exercise
When people think about fat loss, they usually focus on two things:
- Training
- Nutrition
Both are incredibly important.
But there’s a third pillar we talk about a lot at LOKfit.
Lifestyle.
Because your body doesn’t just respond to what you eat or how you train.
It also responds to:
- Stress
- Recovery
- Sleep
- Mental load
- The pressure you place on yourself
Your body doesn’t know the difference between rushing from meeting to meeting, worrying about your children, dealing with work deadlines or doing a tough gym session.
To your nervous system…
It’s all stress.
Living in “Go Mode”
Many of the women we coach have spent years living in constant “go mode.”
Always organising. Always planning. Always fixing. Always looking after everyone else first.
They’ve become incredibly good at coping. But coping isn’t the same as recovering.
When your body spends too much time in a heightened state of stress, it becomes harder to switch into the recovery mode where progress actually happens.
This is when we often see:
- Poor sleep
- Low energy
- Increased cravings
- Slower recovery
- More abdominal bloating
- Stubborn fat around the middle
It’s not because your body is “broken.” It’s because it’s working exactly as it was designed to do, dating back to our Cave-men days. When the body is in ‘fight or flight’ mode it perceives a threat and stores fat (for energy later incase it needs it).
More Isn’t Always Better
One thing we see time and time again?
Women responding to stalled progress by doing more. More cardio. More tracking. More restriction. More supplements.More pressure.
But sometimes the missing piece isn’t doing more it’s doing less. It’s giving your body the opportunity to rest and recover.
At LOKfit, we often remind our Members that recovery isn’t something you earn. It’s something your body needs.
Midlife Changes Everything
This becomes even more important during peri-menopause and menopause. As hormones change, many women become more sensitive to stress. Recovery takes longer. Sleep can become more disrupted. Blood sugar becomes less stable.Your body simply needs more support than it did ten or twenty years ago. Trying to push through like you always have often has the opposite effect.
Build Strength – Not Just Physically
When we talk about getting stronger, we’re not just talking about lifting heavier weights.
We’re talking about becoming more resilient.
That means learning to:
- Prioritise recovery without feeling guilty.
- Accept that rest is part of progress.
- Stop believing every difficult day means you’re failing.
- Understand that your body isn’t working against you.
Because strength isn’t just built in the gym. It’s built in the way you look after yourself every day.
The LOKfit Approach
This is why we don’t just coach training. Or nutrition. We coach lifestyle too.
We look at the full picture:
- Strength training
- Nutrition
- Sleep
- Stress management
- Recovery
- Daily habits
Because real results come when all three pillars are working together.
The Bottom Line
If you’re training consistently, eating well and still feeling frustrated by your progress… Don’t automatically assume you need to train harder or eat less. Sometimes your body isn’t asking for more effort. It’s asking for more recovery.
At LOKfit, we help women understand what their body needs at every stage of life.
Because lasting results aren’t built by constantly pushing harder. They’re built by working with your body instead of against it.
